My Design Philosophy
For me, Collage is a creative alternative way to explore the relationships and dynamics that exist between people and objects. The work is meticulous and involves careful placement of each element. The result is something one of a kind. I enjoy the idea of taking a magazine photo that may inspire feelings of unworthiness (perfect looking models) and twisting it or coupling it with text in such a way as to give it new meaning and insight. That, for me, is what good art should do; change the way we look at something and make us think.
My Experience
I received my B.A. in Studio Art from North Central College in Naperville and have interned at the Brigantine Gallery in Downers Grove. (www.vickeryart.com) I have experience managing the gallery and arranging the displays and the layout of the featured art. I researc artists and persuade them to be a part of the gallery. My ultimate dream is to own my own gallery which will feature a coffee shop and a shelter for homeless cats.
My Materials
I incorporate a variety of materials into my art. In my collage work I utilize magazine cutouts, small found objects and items from my personal life which carry meaning for me. Most of my sculptures are ceramic where I use either electric or gas kilns to fire and refire the piece. I use a variety of glazes which have been poured, sprayed, dipped, or painted on as the result. I work with algenate and plaster to model body parts and I am currently working with sandstone. I experiment with different painting techniques like acrylic, watercolor, and oil where I mix it with charcoal and ink.
